URGENT ACTION ALERT
To VOTF Members & Friends of LI, NYC, and Upstate NY

NY Coalition to Protect Children

The Markey Bill providing an extension of time to come forward and seek legal redress for sexual abuse when they were children, and which would provide a one-year suspension of the Statute of Limitations for all victims up to age 53, will come up again for a vote in the New York State Legislature soon this fall.

The leadership of LI-VOTF believes that the good coming from passing that legislation, both to survivors and to the Church itself, outweighs any burdens it would impose.
To get the legislation passed -- Legislators need to hear Voices--Faithful Voices-- urging them to do it. And since the legislators are about to return to work, they need to hear us soon!

Voice of the Faithful was born out of a strong commitment to justice for heinous crimes against children. These children were twice victimized, first by sexual abuse and then by criminal cover up.

The barriers to justice have been daunting. New York state law itself has been a roadblock. That's why we founded the Coalition to Protect Children to bring together VOTF affiliates and others to pursue justice. Now we have a real opportunity for change.

A special NY State legislative session has been called for the later half of September.

It's critical to get the Child Victims Act (the Markey bill) on the agenda. It's a close race, but the bill has an excellent chance of passing this year.

Please take this opportunity to read a brief explanation of the bill and register your support
