Child
Protection Legislation
Because New York lags far behind many other states in requiring the reporting
of child abuse, Voice of the Faithful of Long Island is urging the passage
of legislation correcting this weakness. Two bills, Senate bill S477 (sponsored
by Senator Saland) and Assembly bill A912 (sponsored by Assemblyman McEneny)
would add clergy to those required by law to report evidence of child
abuse. Definitions of child abuse are also broadened, and direct reports
to law enforcement are mandated by these bills. Other recent bills liberalize
the statute of limitations. — For more info, Click here.
