LIVOTF
Letter to Bishop's Representatives
July 8,2005
Dear Sister Janet, When the Long Island Voice of the Faithful Liaison Team last met with you and with Bishop Murphy's representatives on January 19, 2005, we were informed that you would confer with Bishop Murphy about our discussions and then advise us with respect to a future meeting. It has been almost six months since that meeting and the absence of a response from you leads us to conclude that you and/or Bishop Murphy have decided to discontinue these discussions: Accordingly, we would like to take this opportunity to summarize our thoughts about the salient topics discussed. 1) We provided your team with numerous documents explaining what VOTF means by '"structural change" and discussed this issue at length. To date, your team has not provided us with anything that supports or explains Bishop Murphy's concerns about this issue. 2) Since you or the Bishop has failed to validate his concerns, we are re-asserting our position that his ban on the good people of LI-VOTF meeting on church property is unsupported, unjust and contrary to the spirit of unity so strongly advocated by the late John Paul II. 3) With respect to your concern about our call for Bishop Murphy's resignation, again be advised that we are willing to work with the Bishop for the good of the diocese and all the people. However, we continue to believe that our call for his resignation is justified. We are people of faith and a group that desires healing and unity. We always welcome ongoing and productive dialogue. Although we are greatly disappointed with the results of our discussions, let us both look to the Spirit to guide us and the Church in these difficult times. Please convey this message to the other members of Bishop Murphy's Liaison Team, namely Mr. Rick Hinshaw, Monsignor Francis Midura, Monsignor James Swaider and Monsignor Joseph De Grocco. Sincerely,The Long Island Voice of the Faithful Liaison Team: Kevin Connors John Mulvey Tom Myles Anne Kerrigan |
